Pediatric cardiology is a sub-specialty under Cardiology which deals with foetus, neonates , infants and children with congenital and acquired heart defects and adults with congenital heart defects. This division caters to a large number of patients and provide diagnostic and therapeutic services them and referral to surgical specialist when needed. The diagnostic services provided are advanced 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional echocardiography, pediatric trans-esophageal echocardiography, per-operative and post operative echocardiography and diagnostic cardiac catheterization. We also offer fetal echocardiography services. Neonatal therapeutic services provided are balloon atrila septostomy for D -TGA , ductal stenting for duct dependant circulation ,balloon valvotomy and coractation angioplasty . Infantile and pediatric therapeutic services provided are device closure of atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, persistent arterial duct and other shunts such as coronary-cameral fistula and ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm(RSOV), balloon mitral,aortic and pulmonary valvotomies, coiling of unwanted shunts and pre surgical preparative procedures.. Each year we do non-surgical closure of more than 200 atrial septal defects and more than 150 persistent ductus arteriosus and the department ranks first in India in the number of cases done each year( source National Interventional council data 2008,2009).

Facilities

Echo equipment- Philips IE 33 with facilities for real time 3 D echo and pediatric trans-esophageal probe.

Cardiac cath lab- Siemens axiom artis single plane cathlab system.
